The GEI/MAT program was everything I was looking for. This cohort prepares you for success in and out of the classroom while also building lifelong relationships with your peers and mentors. Looking back I have nothing but great things to say about this program and how much it molded me into the teacher I am today.

After undergrad, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, but hadn't majored in education. I expected to feel comparably prepared for the classroom following my 10 months in GEI as students who spent four college years studying education, and GEI did not disappoint. The combination of intensive pedagogical study, daily feet-on-the-ground classroom experiences, and 10-month timeline make for a program that surpasses all expectations.

Notre Dame provided me with the tools, experience, and knowledge of special education and differentiation necessary to meet the needs of all students. Notre Dame helped me discover my passion for storytelling through the writing courses I have taken…My experience at Â鶹ÊÓƵ has not only helped me sharpen my writing and communication skills but it has given me the confidence boost I needed to believe in my ability to tell stories. Â鶹ÊÓƵ has opened my eyes to people's different experiences. A lot of my classes were discussion-based, so I learned how to listen and communicate well with others, especially those who have a different life experience than me… I am looking forward to student teaching. I got my first research experience at Notre Dame working in the biology department. I can credit the University with connecting me to the lab I’m going to be working in this year. Notre Dame introduced me to the theory that emphasizes caring behavior as the center of nurse practice. My professors encouraged me to take what I was learning in the classroom and bring it to the clinical setting. Notre Dame has prepared me for graduate school in many ways. I have been given the opportunity to be a leader in clubs and sports, and it has prepared me academically. The long labs and tedious reports I have completed has given me the exposure I need to succeed in graduate school with the confidence to tackle any obstacle in my way. Notre Dame has taught me that teaching English learners is not only about knowing pedagogy and theory, but also about approaching students - no matter their background - with compassion and empathy…I truly believe that the TESOL program has equipped me with invaluable tools and knowledge that will help me serve my future students as best as I can…I am excited to utilize all that I learned at Â鶹ÊÓƵ to help English learners realize and reach their full potential.
